Smakota — смакота — is the Ukrainian word you say when something tastes so good it deserves its own sound. It's what my family said at the table, and it's the only name this little studio could have.

I learned to bake beside my grandmother, who made zefir every autumn from the apples that were too soft for anything else. Nothing was wasted, everything was shared, and the making mattered as much as the eating.

When I moved to Florida, that kitchen came with me. The apples are different now, and so is the light, but the recipes still start the same way — slowly, by hand, with a little more time than is strictly practical.

“A dessert is a small way of saying: I thought about you before you arrived.”

Why I bake

Because a birthday deserves more than something taken out of a box. Because a wedding table should look like a garden. Because Ukrainian hospitality means nobody leaves without being fed.

Every order is made in small batches, usually early in the morning, usually with the window open. If you order something custom, we'll talk first — about the person, the day, the colours — and then I'll make it.
